July 29, 2022 - Contender & Advanced Teams

Sept. 2, 2022 - Creative & Competitive Teams

Think you are ready to sign up?
  1. What is your Level of Participation? Talk with your parents to decide how much time you will commit to robotics?
  2. Decide which Adult Roles fit your family's schedule and skills. This program doesn’t happen without the parents, family and community members. I frequently hear from parents, “My teen doesn’t want me to help.” Teens, you are going to have to receive help from adults, and even your own parents. One day you will be independent, but to build a successful robotics team, we need everyone’s help. If there are extenuating circumstances, please email ging.wiandt@gmail.com to describe the situation.
  3. Talk to your friends about your decisions. If you and your friend sign up for two different participation levels, you will be on different teams, regardless of whether or not you listed them as a friend request. Although this may be a difficult decision at the beginning, we have watched many friendships become strained because of frustration over differing levels of commitment. It happens very frequently, and frankly is the whole point of the levels of participation. Be true to yourself and your interests and sign up for the level that you feel is the best fit and honor your friend's choice to do the same. You can still be friends, maybe even carpool to many meetings. Sometimes your teams end up at the same tournaments. And you will meet some new people and they just might become friends too.
Now you can sign up. You must complete all 4 steps:
  1. Sign Up Google Form: Fill this out with your parents.
  2. Write a check for $430 to Edina Robotics Foundation with “FTC dues” in the memo and mail it to Ging Wiandt 4404 Gilford Dr. Edina, 55435.
  3. Five additional forms will be emailed to the parent & student within a few days of filling out the Sign Up form. These forms can be signed electronically through DocuSign.
  4. After July 6, register with EPS Activities with $95 fee filled out with your parents. Financial assistance information so everyone can join the fun!   No physical needed. If you have difficulties with this portion contact Joe Burger, joe.burger@edinaschools.org.
    1. Click the “Registration” box on the left.
    2. Scroll down & click on FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)
    3. Log in or set up a login.
    4. Next to Student's name click register.
    5. Click “Start” and read & fill out the forms forms
    6. Add payment method (if needed) & pay
Contender & All In teams:  announced by 8/6 & meetings start 8/16.
Creative & Competitive teams:  meetings start 8/30 & teams announced 9/5.

Once teams are announced there will be two additional steps:
  1. Adult Mentor will need to complete a background check with Edina Public Schools.
  2. Save the Date: October 27 Tournament Forms Day. Both student and Adult Mentor will need to register with FIRST at no cost, in addition to tournament forms.
We are so glad you are joining us! It is going to be a great season!

Looking for something to do before the season starts?

Virtual Robot - Here is a way to learn Android Studio and Java without any hardware! A great way to try things out without waiting for the build team! It does require Android Studio, but that's where we all want to end up.
